Quick Scan & Toss: Fridge & Freezer
You’re on a roll! You’ve quickly decluttered your cabinets and pantry. Now let’s focus on that science project container known as your refrigerator & freezer.
As with the other areas, in just a few minutes & with specific criteria, you can make a difference in the space. Grab your trash bag, recycling bag & compost bin and eliminate these items today:
- Any item past its expiration date. I’m talking about that sour cream you bought for your Cinco de Mayo party. (Yes. In May.)
- The condiment container with only a teaspoon of ketchup in it. Remember, you bought a new container that you’ve been using for weeks.
- Produce that is past its prime. Give it a squeeze and a sniff if you’re not sure, but that probably won’t be necessary.
- Any food item that does not meet your meal planning goals. It’s taking up valuable space in your VIP kitchen.
- All the unrecognizable containers of leftovers. The rule is the same for fridge & freezer: Keep the labeled, sealed & fresh items. Toss anything else.
- In the freezer, toss anything that is freezer burnt beyond recognition. Free up space for new leftovers!
With a decluttered fridge & freezer, you can start fresh. Get in the habit of labeling all leftovers and do a mini-sweep each week. You’ll catch things about to expire in time to incorporate them into your meal plan!
When was the last time you decluttered your refrigerator? Freezer? Can you identify everything in there?
