My Kitchen Before & After Pictures
I’m proud to report that this weekend’s kitchen painting project was a complete success!
After lots of prep, a few “oops” & “uh ohs”, more than one of Dad’s cheesy jokes (the ladder “has its ups & downs, but in the end it’ll be worth it”), and one gray-tailed dog, the kitchen is painted and the chair rail is hung! We worked out quite a system with Mom, Megan & I painting and Dad & Jim focusing on figuring out the cuts and angles on the saw. And, as a bonus, my dad’s lack of desire to paint worked in my favor. He went in search of other smaller projects to work on. Now, not only is my bathroom sink draining quickly again, but I also have stronger hooks on my coat rack by the front door! (Thanks, Dad!)
On to the fun part: PICTURES!
This is what the kitchen originally looked like.
Over the last couple of years, I got new tile and painted the cabinets. Here is what my kitchen looks like now. The countertops are not as dark as they look in the pictures. (They’re the next step in the kitchen update—when my budget allows.)

First glimpse of the chair rail by the sliding glass door. (That’s Marshall Dillon’s doggie door.)

Behind the table. I’m so happy the fuse box is not such an eyesore now.

The refrigerator. (I conveniently took this picture right after I cleaned the fridge while the magnets were off.)

I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out and I can’t thank my family and Jim enough for helping!
Now…on to deciding on curtains…
Have you taken on DIY projects? Do you break them down in chunks? Or tackle them all at once?
